From Craftpedia European Portal

Welcome to Craftpedia Europe

Craftpedia Europe is the continental portal dedicated to the traditional crafts and artisanal heritage of Europe. It forms part of the global Craftpedia project, an expanding encyclopedia documenting craft traditions from around the world.

The European portal is currently under active development. However, it already includes a growing body of structured articles, with Germany serving as one of the first extensively developed country sections.

Through its initial domains — including ceramics, textiles, woodcraft, and metalwork — the Germany portal demonstrates the broader vision of Craftpedia: to present traditional crafts in a systematic, academically grounded, and culturally meaningful way.

Future development of Craftpedia Europe will expand coverage to additional countries and craft domains, creating a comprehensive and interconnected representation of European artisanal traditions.

Structure

The portal is organized by country, with each national section further structured into major craft domains and detailed subdomains.

This approach allows for both broad exploration and in-depth study of individual crafts, regional traditions, and historical developments.

Mission

Craftpedia aims to document, preserve, and present traditional crafts as an essential part of cultural heritage. The European portal contributes to this mission by highlighting the diversity, complexity, and historical depth of crafts across the continent.

Current Status

The portal is live and actively expanding. New content is added continuously as part of an ongoing effort to build a comprehensive and reliable resource.
